The Curly Pyjama Letters order quantity
  +   -

NZ$ 25.00 each
Paperback
Author: Michael Leunig
In Stock: 22
These letters are a small fragment of the vast correspondence known to have taken place between lone voyager Vasco Pyjama and his friend and mentor Mr Curly of Curly Flat.
While domestic contentment and ease with the natural world are Mr Curly's major attributes, Vasco's restless nature has compelled him into a great voyage of discovery. In the company of his direction-finding duck, he has wandered far and wide, risking, finding, enjoying and observing much.
Theirs is a language of unique personal protocol, as is often found in conversations between creative and intelligent minds in awe of life's complex grandeur, beauty and pathos.

First published 2001.

11, 002 Things to be Miserable About order quantity
  +   -
NZ$ 29.00 each
Paperback
Author: Lia Romeo
In Stock: 19
There's a warm and fuzzy little book entitled "14,000 Things to Be Happy About" which has sold over a million copies. It's basically a long list of things to brighten your day like snuggly kittens and flaky pie crust. That's great, but what about a satirical companion volume for the not-so-optimistic set? Here it is. "11,002 Things to Be Miserable About" is a list of all the reasons not to wake up in the morning. Ironically enough, when you put all of them under one cover, it's actually very funny. This decidedly absurd stream of consciousness is perfect for sardonic and disaffected youth, for people seeking gifts for Traumatic Event Birthdays (like 21, 25, 30, 40, and, well, anything after 40) and for anyone else with an offbeat sense of humour. Enjoy.

'There was once a man who could no longer believe things that were said. All he could trust was sighing, sobbing, swearing, screaming and singing. If you asked him why he no longer believed, he would sigh... He would sob... He would scream and swear. And then he would start to sing like a bird.'Michael Leunig has been drawing and writing for Australian newspapers since 1965. He was born in Melbourne and now lives on a farm in north-eastern Victoria. His work has been widely published overseas, and has been adapted in Australia for television, theatre and radio.

Leunig's many titles include The Penguin Leunig, The Travelling Leunig, Ramming the Shears, Everyday Devils and Angels, You and Me, Short Notes from the Long History of Happiness, Why Dogs Sniff Each Other's Tails, Goatperson and Other Tales, The Curly Pyjama Letters, The Stick and Other Tales of Our Times, Poems and most recently, Strange Creature.

Short Notes from the Long History of Happiness order quantity

Hardback
Author: Michael Leunig
In Stock: 8
One of my favourite books of all time is Short Notes on the Long History of Happiness by Michael Leunig, published by Viking Press in a lovely little hardcover edition at $27. As far as I am concerned Mr Leunig can do no wrong but this is such a beautiful tactile volume it would have to be my pick as the best of his many books. I have given it to people on every possible occasion - it has such simple but profound truths that it is suitable for births, deaths, weddings, birthdays or just because you want to do something spontaneous. Unless you are familiar with Michael Luenig's work it is very hard to discribe, but suffice it to say that he is a cartoonist extraorinaire, master of encapsulating in words and pictures universal themes of ordinary life with warmth and empathy. If you have not alreay seen his work you are in for a real treat.

Gillian Newman recommends.
