BOOKSELLERS

Self-published Authors

Dear Author…

Congratulations on writing and self-publishing your book! We’re book lovers and we
do understand the work that goes into creating your book.
But…
We are shown literally thousands of books every single month, from publishers with
well-organised distribution processes and marketing departments. We have to make
a lot of difficult decisions about what to stock.

Before we can consider stocking a self-published book it needs to meet these
criteria:
 The book must be listed with Nielsen Bookdata. This is a free service.
Register online at http://www.nielsentitleeditor.com   Any queries contact
infobooknz@nielseniq.com
 The book has to have been professionally edited.
 The book must be available from the author or a New Zealand distributor.
 The book must have a realistic RRP (Recommended Retail Price) and be
available for us to buy at 50% off the RRP, plus we pay the 15% GST
 Books are only accepted on SOR (sale or return) terms. Payment is made
once the book has sold.
 The author pays postage to Nelson; unsold copies to be collected from the
shop
If you meet these criteria, please email us with information about your book: include
the cover image, the description, the price and the page count. If it sounds like
something we’d like to stock we’ll be in touch. Please don’t send us a copy or copies
unless we ask.

Please also be aware that every month we return a lot of unsold books to the
publishers – it’s really not unusual for a book to sit in the shop for several months and
not sell a single copy.  If we do choose to stock your book, you need to keep your
expectations realistic – we’ll do our best for you but we can’t promise your book will
sell.
